Source: Post Purchase of Bronx Times Imminent

We've been hearing these rumors for months, but a very well-placed source tell us that the Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, the publisher of the New York Post, is sealing the deal on its purchase of the Bronx Times this week.
This follows News Corp.'s buy of 28 weeklies in Brooklyn and Queens last September.

  1. This doesn't make me feel really encouraged on the state of the media here in the Bronx.

First off, I hope that the people who work at the BRONX TIMES can keep their jobs, and maybe make a little more money. It is very hard to work an local papers and keep one's head above their head.

But the real issue here is what sort of editorial influence will the Murdoch "ideal" have on the paper's content? While I understand much of the content in the BRONX TIMES is upbeat, positive, and often press releasey, you don't see articles that try to sway people's political beliefs.

The editorial pages and sometimes the music and film, theatre and TV reviews in the Murdoch-owned NEW YORK POST are so politically hateful to people, that I sometimes feel I'm watching Fox News. And Fox is also a Murdoch-owned property.
